| The following are the lyrics of the Coldplay single "Violet Hill," which I find quite intriguing and meaningful: Was a long and dark December From the rooftops I remember There was snow White snow
Clearly I remember From the windows they were watching While we froze down below
When the future's architectured By a carnival of idiots on show You'd better lie low
If you love me Won't you let me know?
Was a long and dark December When the banks became cathedrals And the fog Became God
Priests clutched onto bibles And went out to fit their rifles And the cross was held aloft
Bury me in honor When I'm dead and hit the ground A love back home unfolds
If you love me Won't you let me know?
I don't want to be a soldier With the captain of some sinking ship With snow, far below
So if you love me Why'd you let me go?
I took my love down to violet hill There we sat in snow All that time she was silent still
So if you love me Won't you let me know?
If you love me, Won't you let me know? | | |
| I've been listening to a lot of Semisonic lyrics, so here goes some of the songs I am particulary fond of from them. These first songs are four of my favorite songs from their most popular album "Feeling Strangely Fine." The first of these songs for today is the second single from the album: "Singing In My Sleep." The second is the familiar single from this album, the first single and biggest hit from the album, "Closing Time." The third is a song called "Made To Last," a song (like "Closing Time") about birth. The fourth is a song called "Secret Smile," which was a bit hit in England and around the world, and was the third single from the album in the United States. "Singing In My Sleep" Got your tape and it changed my mind Heard your voice in between the lines Come around from another time Where nobody ever goes All alone on the overpass Wired and phoned to a heart of glass Now I'm falling in love too fast With you or the songs you chose
And all the stars Play for me Say the promise you long to keep
I can hear you sing it to me in my sleep I can hear you sing it to me in my sleep
I've been living in your cassette It's the modern equivalent Singing up to a Capulet On a balcony in your mind
In the City the lion sleeps Pray to Sony my soul to keep Were you ever so bright and sweet Did you ever look so nice
And all the sounds Dream for me Dive me down in a soul so deep
I can hear you sing it to me in my sleep I can hear you sing it to me in my sleep "Closing Time" Closing time, open all the doors And let you out into the world Closing time, turn all of the lights on Over every boy and every girl
Closing time, one last call for alcohol So finish your whisky or beer Closing time, you don't have to go home But you can't stay here
I know who I want to take me home I know who I want to take me home I know who I want to take me home Take me home
Closing time, time for you to go out To the places you will be from Closing time, this room won't be open Till your brothers or your sisters come
So gather up your jackets, move it to the exits I hope you have found a friend Closing time, every new beginning Comes from some other beginning's end, yeah
I know who I want to take me home I know who I want to take me home I know who I want to take me home Take me home
Closing time, time for you to go out To the places you will be from
I know who I want to take me home I know who I want to take me home I know who I want to take me home Take me home
Closing time, every new beginning Comes from some other beginning's end "Made To Last" Made to last awhile, and roll on Made to move in style, and move along Made to dream of flying so high Made to wake up crying, I don't know why
Beautiful one, sleep in the sun Secret, sweet, and sublime I hope you last a long, long time I hope you last a long, long time
Made to come alone and pair off Flash like a rolling stone, seventy-one One-time love affair with the earth Waiting on the air for some rebirth, for what it's worth
Wherever you are, nearby or far Black, white, lemon or lime I hope you last a long, long time I hope you last a long, long time "Secret Smile" Nobody knows it but you've got a secret smile And you use it only for me Nobody knows it but you've got a secret smile And you use it only for me
So use it and prove it Remove this whirling sadness I'm losing, I'm bluesing But you can save me from madness
Nobody knows it but you've got a secret smile And you use it only for me Nobody knows it but you've got a secret smile And you use it only for me
So save me, I'm waiting I'm needing, hear me pleading And soothe me, improve me I'm grieving, I'm barely believing now, now
When you are flying around and around the world And I'm lying alonely I know there's something sacred and free reserved And received by me only
Nobody knows it but you've got a secret smile And you use it only for me Nobody knows it but you've got a secret smile And you use it only for me
So use it and prove it Remove this whirling sadness I'm losing, I'm bluesing But you can save me from madness Now, now
When you are flying around and around the world And I'm lying alonely I know there's something sacred and free reserved And received by me only
Nobody knows it but you've got a secret smile And you use it only for me Nobody knows it but you've got a secret smile
Nobody knows it Nobody knows it Nobody knows it but you've got a secret...
Nobody knows it Nobody knows it Nobody knows it but you've got a secret...
Nobody knows it Nobody knows it Nobody knows it but you've got a secret

| What follows is a fantastic song from Ricky Martin from his Grammy-winning "Vuelve" album called "Muchas Gracias Por Pensar En Mi." My translation from the Spanish to the English follows in parentheses. Ricky Martin is widely recognized for his work on behalf of children in danger around the world, a cause that is near and dear to my own heart as well, and he released an album in 2002 (not in my music collection, yet) named Almas De Silencia (Souls of Silence). And now, for the lyrics: Hoy mi tristeza no es pasajera (Now my sadness is not passing) Tengo fiebre de la verdadera (I am afraid of the truth) Y cuando llegue la noche (And when the night comes) Cada estrella paracera una lagrima (Each star appears as a sorrow)
No me digas nada (You didn't tell me anything)
Qusiera ser como todos (I want to be like everyone) Pasar feliz por la vida (Passing the life happily) O fingir que estoy siempre bien (Or faking that I'm always fine) Ver el color de cosas con humor (To see the color of things with humor)
No me digas nada (You didn't tell me anything)
Que lo malo siempre pasa (What has always happened bad) El futuro sera bueno (In the future will be good) Todo pasa (Everything passes)
Cuando todo esta perdido (When everything is lost) Siempre queda una salida (There always remains an exit) Cuando todo esta perdido (When everything is lost) Siempre brilla una luz (A light always shines)
Manana es otro dia mejor (Tomorrow is always a better day) Pero hoy, porque me siento asi? (But today, why do I feel this way?) Baja del cielo un angel triste cerca de mi (Under the sky a sad angel is near me) Y esta fiebre que no cesa (And this fear doesn't cease) Y mi sonrisa se seca (And my smile dries up)
Cuando todo esta perdido (When everything is lost) Siempre queda una salida (There always remains an exit) Cuando todo esta perdido (When everything is lost) Siempre brilla una luz (A light always shines)
No me digas nada (You didn't tell me anything)
Mirame en silencio (You look at me in silence) Y muchas gracias por pensar en mi. (And thanks for thinking about me)

| Here is an original poem of mine, but with a twist: it's in Spanish. Later on (probably tomorrow, if I get around to it, I will include some information about how it was inspired and include a song lyric from the singer who inspired the title). Until then, hasta luego. | | |
